Anmol Mohara is an award winning drummer/ tabla player/composer born & raised in Nepal and currently living in London. His music blends Nepali culture & tradition with jazz and other groove-based genres pioneering a unique sound world. Influenced by renowned artists such as Trilok Gurtu, Karim Ziad, Oumou Sangare, Nitin Sawhney, Nana Vasconcelos, Brice Wassy, his mission is to present the traditional music from Nepal in a contemporary setting to the world.
Anmol’s musical journey began at Nepal Music Center, from 2009 to 2015, honing his skills in drums, tabla, and traditional Nepali folk percussion instruments. In 2016, he participated in a junior jazz course at the Royal Academy Of Music for two years. He has won two national awards in the U.K on the drum kit, the ‘UK Young Drummer Of The Year’ and ‘Yamaha Future Beat’.
As a sideman, Anmol has worked with a variety of artists/bands such as: Nicolas Meier, Gareth Lockrane, Antoine Fafard, Phil Meadows, Nepali Folk Symphony Orchestra, Loz Speyer. Performed at venues such as: Ronnie Scott’s, Eventim Apollo, Jazz Cafe Posk, Rich Mix, Grand Junction. In 2023, he graduated from the Guildhall School Of Music and Drama on jazz drums and was invited back to spend another year on their prestigious junior fellowship programme. He was one of the featured artists alongside John Mclaughlin, Christian Mcbride, Gerald Clayton on a project called ‘Heartcore for Nepal’ by Michaela Bóková from Heartcore Records.
Anmol regularly performs with his own band and has performed at venues such as Milton Court Concert Hall, Karamel N22, Guildhall Basement Bar, Map Cafe, Cockpit Theatre. With the support from PRS Foundation, Arts Council England, Help Musicians’ and Youth Music, he is currently working on his debut album which will be released in 2025.
